Challenges facing the engine industry have been mainly focused on meeting emissions regulations. Diesel manufacturers have looked for ways of reducing emissions steadily in line with the various worldwide requirements, while maintaining or improving fuel consumption, power density and reliability. Vehicle and engine manufacturers continue to develop products that achieve these stringent emissions targets, however with rising fuel prices in recent years we have seen their priorities shift from being emissions driven towards looking for fuel economy solutions. These new priorities present both vehicle and engine manufacturers with many new challenges as they develop their next generation of products. |
