Students from Castle Hill School recently attended two Health and Safety Days at Cummins Turbo Technologies, Huddersfield. The purpose of the visits were to make the students aware of the dangers encountered whilst working on a site like Cummins Turbo Technologies and the precautions that are implemented to help prevent accidents.
The students were given a talk and shown a slide show of personal protective equipment that we use. They were given the opportunity to try on the various items such as safety glasses, ear muffs and high visual jackets and a demonstration was held to show why we wear safety shoes. In order to make the event more interactive, a cardboard cut out man named ‘Safety Stu’ was made; he had his own safety wear that the students were able to stick on.
A demonstration by our Occupational Health department was also given on how to put on a sling and an ice pack was brought in for the students to feel and pass around.
After lunch the students were shown a sectioned turbocharger and given a brief talk on how a turbocharger works. The Dodge Ram was also on display and some of the students enjoyed climbing into the Dodge Ram; the hardest thing was to get them out!
Thank you to everyone from Turbo Technologies who helped out at the two events; Melanie Reid, Helen Makin, Jennifer Hirst, Lynne Hancock, Amy Knapp, Tom Ingrey, Yun Qiu, Dongdong Zhao, Parasharan Anathakrishnan, Dane Knowles, Matthew Morrison and Paul Rushworth.
