In 2008, we successfully joined in the Cummins Library Project to help 31 schools in deprived areas to construct libraries. It involved 11 CSR groups from Cummins China and the China Book Donation Organization. The ’Cummins Library Project’ utilizes funds from the Cummins Innovation Grants, a special charity of the Cummins Grants Committee, with an upper limit of each innovation grants of US$25,000. The grants are used for every Cummins CSR projects globally.
One of the benefiters of the ‘Cummins Library’ is the Wuxi Shegang Junior School, which is a school for children of migrants with very few resources. Here Wuxi Cummins Turbo Technologies implemented the book donation plan and made use of a spare classroom in the school for Cummins library. In the new library, 1000 different books are listed on the shelf for the students to read. The design of the reading area of the library is quite safe and bright, which is a comfortable environment for the children to learn.
On 20 April 2009, a ceremony was conducted by Wuxi Cummins Turbo Technologies to open the ’Cummins Library’ in the Wuxi Shegang Junior School. The new library stocks around 1000 books, which cover everything from fairy tales, science and technology to T’ang poem, dictionary and instruction. It also has four book shelves and six writing tables that allow 30 students to reading inside at any one time.
The Cummins Library has helped the children to fulfill their dream of having reading books in a comfortable environment. Now, the students of Wuxi Shegang School are able to improve their knowledge, broaden their horizons and cultivate their dreams.
